# Interview patterns

Establish the research question and sample from the supplied interviews. Do not invent participant attributes. Count each participant once even when they repeat a point across excerpts.

For meaningful episodes retain interview ID, timestamp or line, situation, action, obstacle, and consequence. Separate reported behavior from wishes or answers to leading questions.

Group episodes by the problem rather than similar vocabulary. Include supporting quotes and exceptions. State denominators: “3 of 8 participants in this sample,” not a market-wide percentage.

A feature request is not yet a product decision. Describe the underlying need, then a possible hypothesis and a way to test it. Do not establish causation from one story.

Deliver an evidence map, prioritized problems with reasons, contradictions, and follow-up interview questions. Omit personal details irrelevant to the finding.

Trace every final theme back to original excerpts. Finish after correcting unsupported grouping and counts.
